The Woodland Hills-Tarzana Chamber of Commerce is proud to salute the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valleyon the occasion of its 20thanniversary.
Driving through Warner Center it’s hard to believe that less than two miles away is a Boys & Girls Club, 76 percent of whose members’ families live below the poverty line and more than one-third of the children come from single-parent families.
Yet it’s true.
In 1992, the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley applied for a charter from the national organization. Its Founders, Roger Greaves, Bob Gross, Brad Rosenheim, and Bob Voit, were all respected members of the local business community who shared the vision of assisting local young people, particularly those from underprivileged families, in need of help.

A CHAMBER
SUCCESS STORY!

|
Hello. I'm Patrick Meherin. My wife is Sheryl Tratner-Meherin. We are Sales Managers with Avant-Garde Marketing Solutions. We joined the Woodland Hills ~ Tarzana Chamber of Commerce in August 2007. We had not been getting the level of results we wanted from just cold-calling businesses. The Chamber was the first avenue of networking that we attempted. It has far and away proved to be the most worthwhile source of leads for us.
Sheryl and I met an Ambassador at the second Chamber Mixer we went to. He gave us some good advice, encouraging us to join the Ambassador Committee. He said that it was a great way to get more involved in the Chamber, and that volunteering would help us grow our business as well.

No One Could Hear Me Scream
My hand was being pulled in and gobbled up by the printing press, but the noisy factory covered up everything. No help was coming.
Before getting into graphic design, I took a job in a door and wall paneling factory in the city of Orange, California. I was young but a good worker and I had some abilities that the boss in the In the pre-finish department found useful. I would mix the colors for the wood stain in a 60 gallon drum. The basic colors came from five gallon cans of raw pigment; oxide red, raw sienna, burnt sienna, raw umber, burnt umber, yellow ochre, vivid, intense, amazing colors in pure pigment form. I enjoyed it. It seemed I was the only person on the crew who could mix the colors consistently, and manage the production line so that all the wood panels matched throughout the entire run. No simple task when you consider that each piece of raw wood that we began with was different in color from the others. Before I became the guy in charge of colors, an entire boxcar of wall paneling was returned from Texas because the wall paneling was the wrong color. It did not match the boxcar that arrived at the construction site before it. READ MORE...

GETTING BUSINESS
FROM THE CHAMBER

Thank you to our members who brought in new members!

People always ask me; how can I get business from the chamber? It really isn't difficult and this is what I have to say in response:
Stay connected by attending events. This will show that you are serious about being a member and building relationships.
Get involved; join a committee or volunteer
your time to help at events. This gives you
more exposure. Get to know your fellow members and let them get to know you.
This makes it easier to refer one another.
There are so many chamber events to accomplish this. Build a good reputation by treating other members with kindness and respect, and always be your best self.
USE CHAMBER MEMBERS....spend money within the chamber. Nothing builds
goodwill more than spending money with chamber members. It also gives the
business you are using see how you handle
a business transaction.
Give a testimonial after using a chamber member. This builds more goodwill.
Always follow up with a lead given to you by a chamber member. If you do not
follow up, the likelihood of getting another referral from them will be very
low. And always remember that it is about farming (building relationships) and
not hunting (focusing only on making a sale). Don't be pushy Be patient
and follow the steps described above, the leads will come.

Ambassador of the Month
Larry Cohen, President of Bel-Air Exteriors, joined the Chamber in 2008. Larry is a co-founder of Bel-Air which started in business in the mid 1990s.
Larry is from Erie Pennsylvania , holds an MBA in Marketing from Michigan State University, and then moved to Los Angeles. Prior to starting Bel-Air, Larry founded two other businesses: the first providing computer services for dental and medical practices and the second running a home health care agency specializing in home intravenous care. The common thread in all three businesses is that Larry has used his expertise in marketing while associates provide the services and the technical expertise. Since marketing is in his blood, being an Ambassador for the Chamber is a natural fit. The Ambassadors are some of the most active people in the Chamber in getting to know them is the best way to network with everybody. Also Ambassadors have the opportunity to meet new members and to engage with everyone in the Chamber. In other words - it is where the action is!
