I have been teaching piano professionally for over 13 years, throughout Orange County, Diamond Bar area and the San Fernando Valley. I have dealt with dozens of piano and music stores, searching for the best service I could refer my students.

****************************
When you buy a piano, you should have the same attitude as if you were to buy a car:
1) Does it look great inside and out?
2) Is this a good brand (for resale value in the future)
3) Has it been maintained & tuned beautifully?
4) Does it give you a nice smile when you play/drive it?
5) Have you had an expert test-drive your purchase before you decide?
************************************************** ******************

Thankfully I have test-driven hundreds of piano to help my students find the best. Knauer's Pianos are absolutely a cut above the rest. The quality of the pianos they sell, are sold elsewhere for 3-4x what Knauer's charge.

Ben Knauer is a Master Technician. I have seen & heard him take a 120yr old piano and make it sing like it was young again. His team is not only professional but honest.

People regularly FLY FROM OUT OF STATE just to buy pianos from them. I met these out-of-towners who've testified to Knauer Pianos' service.

***If you would like professional, honest "test-drive" of any piano they have on hand, feel free to contact me (424) 235-5009.

Knauer Pianos is a warehouse-like store with a good variety of uprights and grands as well as piano-makers (Kawai, Knabe & Bros., Bosendorfer, Yamaha, Bechstein, Steinway, etc.). It sells both new, used and vintage pianos. I only visited two other piano stores in L.A., but Knauer seemed to have the best in terms of quality.

There are some beauts here - a gorgeous Bechstein with delicate ornamental painting, and a giant 19th century Steinway grand.

Steve, the manager, is also a composer/musician, so is he quite knowledgeable about the various instruments' tone and action. In fact, he pointed me to a piano that was superior in clarity and tone compared with the others I had tried. That was the one I ultimately purchased, so I have him to thank. Steve is also very helpful, and will tell you that you're free to play any piano in the store.

The store owner, Ben Knauer, is also quite nice and a good businessman. We hammered out a price that both of us were happy with. I highly recommend Knauer to anyone in the market looking to buy a good piano. The price of the pianos include taxes, delivery and tuning. You can also buy pianos online from Knauer, though if you're a musician, you know that buying a piano that you haven't first played is unthinkable.

By the way, a tip: The store is going to move several miles away, in Reseda, later this spring/summer, so it is discounting the prices of many of its pianos.

I have been a professional pianist and piano teacher for the past 25 years and can say with good authority that I have never known a more knowledgeable, helpful, and honest piano expert than Ben Knauer. As if that weren't enough, all the pianos I have purchased from Ben have been at such a fraction of the cost of other stores, that I've never been able to come close to matching the cost anywhere else. Ben is so concerned about each family having just the right piano to match their needs that he always recommends the best brand that is the least expensive for them. I send my piano students' families to Ben whenever they need a piano. I'd never go anywhere else.

I liked Ben Knauer. Overlook the disorganization and you'll find a pleasant, courteous, knowledgeable, candid, ready to help piano professional. Go early and make an appointment to see Ben personally and it will be worth the trip. Even if you don't find your piano there, (I didn't) you'll at least come out with a better understanding of pianos and a pleasant non-pressure atmosphere.

I signed up for the adult piano lessons at the Tarzana location and I just love these classes!!! The price is great at $100 per month for a full-hour lesson each week and the teacher is awesome. Additionally, Robbie Knauer is so nice.
