Valley Village is where adults with developmental challenges thrive.
About Valley Village:

Our mission is to protect, foster, develop and advance the rights and interests of people with developmental disabilities.

Services:

Since we were founded by parents in 1971, Valley Village has provided loving care for adults with developmental disabilities. We have 18 family-style homes throughout the communities of the San Fernando Valley and three day programs. Our homes and day programs care for those ranging in need of semi-independent to 24-hour medical attention.

Accomplishments:

Valley Village will celebrate 50 years of service to individuals with developmental challenges in 2021. We serve some 400 men and women with over 350 trained and caring staff who average a term of six years, while most stay with us much longer.

Ashley's story:
Ashley: Ashley came to live at Valley Village in 1988 and has Down syndrome. Her mother and father had passed away leaving her and her disabled sibling with no local family to advocate for them. At Valley Village she lived in a family-style home with five housemates and house parents. She thrived in this new environment where she lived for 27 years. As Ashley aged, her medical needs increased and she required more nursing care which (because of licensing regulations) threatened her placement at her home. Valley Village had prepared for this day with the development of our Altano House, which provides nursing care just below what one would receive in a Skilled Nursing Facility, and just the amount Ashley needed. Ashley was excited about the move. Since the homes all participate in recreational activities together, and she goes to day program with many of her friends, she felt that she would not miss her original housemates too much. Ashley is enjoying the new house, and her favorite class at day program is Ceramics. Not only did she get to stay under the Valley Village umbrella, but her medical care is managed and her well-being is attended.
