Valley Cultural Center History
The Valley Cultural Center serves the greater San Fernando Valley as the prominent resource in promoting the performing and visual arts. With the active support and participation of the community, our mission is to entertain, enrich and educate current and future generations. We offer diverse programs and events as well as recognize outstanding achievements in the arts.
Each summer since its inception in 1975, the Valley Cultural Center has presented free Concerts on the Green, a program that today has played to more then four generations of Valley Residents. Initially presented in Shadow Ranch, by year two, Concerts on the Green moved to its current home in Warner Center Park, the 20-acre plot of land on Topanga Canyon Boulevard donated to the City of Los Angeles by the Harry Warner family. In 1993, the stage facility was dedicated as the Lou Bredlow Pavilion in honor of VCC’s founder. Today, more than 150,000 people attend VCC’s free Summer Concerts, Movies and July 4th Extravaganza each year. Although a focal point for the Valley’s summer entertainment, these programs are only part of what VCC brings Valley Residents and their families.
FREE Concerts on the Green
The Valley Cultural Center has presented free Concerts on the Green every summer since 1975, featuring Classic Rock, Classical, Jazz, R&B, Latino Pop, Country, Dixieland, Folk and more. Concerts on the Green are the cornerstone of Sunday afternoons in the San Fernando Valley. Average attendance is 6,500 per week!
In 2011 we expanded our food court to 20 vendors and expanded the children’s play area to encourage and support family activity. In addition, our Corporate Village was expanded to 50 vendors, including a Green Village focusing on the environment.
FREE Movies on the Green
VCC has expanded our outdoor programming at Warner Park to include Movies on the Green. Outdoor family movies are presented on Saturday evenings, (July through August) from 7 PM until 10 PM, projected on a 30’ screen with digital projection and 7.1 surround sound. All of the amenities you have come accustomed to with Concerts will be there for your enjoyment. We are pleased to be working with Shelley’s Stereo and Video of Woodland Hills as the Presenting Sponsor of this project. Average attendance is 2,500 per week!
FREE Monday Morning Concerts for Children
Since 1997 Monday Morning Concerts has placed professional, often world-class musicians, dancers and actors in an intimate educational setting with children, age fie through eleven. Monday Morning Concerts consist of a performance, a brief history lesson on the musical and cultural style being presented, followed by a question and answer session with the performers. Often children are invited on stage to be part of the performance.
FREE Dennis P. Zine’s July 4th Extravaganza
With the biggest fireworks display and the largest attendance of any 4th of July event in the Valley, VCC’s Extravaganza delights over 60,000 people with a free concert and 20-minute spectacular fireworks display.
Annual Gala and Presentation of the Golden Horn Award / Clyde Porter Humanitarian Award and new Arts Appreciation Awards
Join us for our primary fundraising event in the fall of each year as we guarantee a fun time with our signature party night. We also bestow our annual Golden Horn Award to one individual for their outstanding participation, dedication, and commitment to improving the lives of people in our community. In addition we present the annual Clyde Porter Humanitarian Award for philanthropy and volunteerism.
Food, Wine, & Microbrew Festival
Over 1,200 connoisseurs from all over the Valley gather at Westfield Promenade to experience the ultimate in local restaurant delicacies, California wines, and Los Angeles-area microbrews. The event is traditionally held in May of each year.
Ruth’s Chris Fundraiser

Grateful Hearts
In October of each year, the community gathers to show their gratitude to our men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department. The event consists of a Food Fair, live and silent auction, and other fun activities. In 2011 we raised over $28,000 to support LAPD Topanga Station and LAFD Battalion #17.
LAPD National Night Out
The Anniversary of LAPD National Night Out takes place each year in early August. This is an opportunity for the West Valley community to join with the Los Angeles Police Department for a unique crime and drug prevention event. Last year, over 3,000 residents met police officers that protect their neighborhoods and enjoyed a variety of food and drink. The event is FREE to the public and is co-sponsored by the Valley Cultural Center.
