New Service Offers Neighborhood Crime and Public Safety Updates from the LAPD...
As an LAPD Reserve Officer, Mitch Englander stays up to date on efforts by our the local Police to keep the community informed on public safety issues in our neighborhoods.
He reports that the LAPD now offers a free service that allows L.A. residents to sign up to receive messages directly from the Police on crime, traffic, missing persons, emergencies and other public safety information directly to their phones or email inboxes.
Residents can sign up online to receive the updates by text message to their phones, or by email, or both. They can sign up for bulletins based on ZIP code and can sign up for multiple locations so they can keep up to date on traffic, crime and emergencies at their home, workplace, or homes of relatives.

Woodland Hills Beautification Project
Community leaders have identified the section of Ventura Boulevard between De Soto Avenue and Canoga Avenue to implement beautification projects. At this meeting, the program will be introduced and stakeholders will present ideas for projects that will improve the aesthetic appeal of the area for customers, neighbors, pedestrians, and visitors.
Some projects have already been completed to beautify the area, including community cleanup efforts by Chaminade Middle School and Chrysalis, a non-profit organization. In September, 280 children and parents from Chaminade Middle School focused one whole morning to beautify the adopted section of the Boulevard by picking up trash and debrisand pulling weeds along the sidewalks and tree wells. The students provided thiscommunity service to the business corridor in order to make the neighborhood clean andattractive for the community.
Chrysalis, a non-profit organization which providestransitional jobs to economically disadvantaged individuals, with the use of special onetime funding from the City of Los Angeles’ Community Development Department, provided a day’s worth of free cleanup services to our businesses on the adopted section of Ventura Boulevard with a crew of 8 workers. Services provided to this businesscorridor included sweeping sidewalks and street gutters, emptying and relining trashcans, removing small graffiti stickers and osters, and reporting any bulk items or large graffiti to appropriate City agencies for removal.
