|Two aspects that make our school a special place:
||The top two aspects that make our music school a special place are diversity and community feel. Both our staff and our student body reflect the socio-economic diversity found in the San Fernando Valley. We are a perfect example of how music can bring different people together to work, learn, and have fun together. We work through cultural and sometimes language barriers to successfully integrate students and parents into the NVCS family.
|How will this cash grant directly benefit the students at your school?
||We have a limited budget for music instruments, music theory and technique books, other needed educational materials such as music symbols memorization cards and small instruments for rhythm practice. We only hold parents responsible for purchasing lesson books and we are always looking for ways to help families that can’t afford to buy an instrument for at-home practice. Moreover, we are seeking funds to purchase an upright piano that will be used by our non-beginner students during their weekly lessons. We have many talented students that need to play on a piano (not a keyboard) in order to progress in their piano studies, but they cannot afford to purchase or rent a piano for at-home use.
|What are the biggest challenges in running your school, and how will you overcome them?
||The biggest challenge has been raising awareness of our music school. Due to limited resources, we have not been able to significantly invest in marketing efforts. We rely on volunteer efforts for website and promotional material creation. Financial assistance will help us invest in marketing efforts that will help build awareness of our music school so that we can reach out and serve more families in the San Fernando Valley.
