The IRS on Friday announced that it will start accepting and processing 2020 tax returns on Friday, Feb. 12. This is later than in most previous years when tax season has started in January. The IRS says the delay is due to the extra time it needs for programming and testing its systems following the tax law changes made by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (CAA 2021), P.L. 116-260, which was enacted Dec. 27. https://www.journalofaccountancy.com/news/2021/jan/tax-return-filing-season-starts-feb-12-2021.html?utm_source=mnl:alerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=15Jan2021&utm_content=button
The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) will reopen Monday for select lenders and borrowers, the U.S. Small Business Administration and Treasury announced Friday. The SBA and Treasury said in a news release that initially only community financial institutions that serve minority- and women-owned businesses will be able to make loans. Specifically, these community financial institutions can begin making loans to first-time PPP borrowers on Monday and second-time PPP borrowers on Wednesday. https://www.journalofaccountancy.com/news/2021/jan/ppp-application-reopening-date.html?utm_source=mnl:alerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=08Jan2021&utm_content=button
