1. Started the company with someone who occupied a special place in my heart but as every beautiful story, it ended. I, then, had to find strength inside to continue by myself and found it using my VR games, rides, and journeys. They were my inspiration to continue myself with the project.

It operates through countless volunteers across the nation, overseen by a volunteer board and a full-time executive director. Mr. Marc Maurer currently serves in this position.
The purpose of the Action Fund for the Blind is to assist blind and deaf-blind persons in securing reading matter, to educate the public about blindness, to provide specialized aids and appliances to the blind, to give consultation to governmental and private agencies serving the blind, to offer assistance to those losing vision in their later years, to offer services to blind children and their parents, and to work toward improving the quality of life for the blind and deaf-blind.
All of the board members of the Action Fund for the Blind are blind and receive no financial compensation for their services. The members of the board have succeeded in a variety of occupations and activities and have learned to deal with blindness and its inconveniences.
The Action Fund for the Blind has its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, and offices and facilities in Tarzana, California, and volunteer workers throughout the country. The Tarzana office houses our free lending library of Braille and Twin Vision® (print/Braille) picture books for blind children, while the Baltimore office manages our Free Braille Book program. Books are sent postage free to borrowers in the United States and Canada. The Action Fund also distributes free Braille calendars to blind and deaf-blind people on a nationwide basis.

I first met my wife, Jenn, in 2005 while we were applying for residency/internship following our medical school/psychology programs. I was matched to a position at the Cleveland clinic, and Jenn to an internship in New York. We maintained and nurtured our courtship for a year, with Jenn (most often, due to my 100 hour work weeks) making the 6 hour trek out to spend weekends together. During this time, we began to see an emerging theme in the healthcare paradigm. Patient care was thwarted by the demands of a saturated system and insurance companies. Even through our exhausting and demanding schedules, idealism pushed us forward into the path of creating our own system. I was often looked upon as the “maverick- hippy” in stark contrast to the streamlined and linear approach dictated by mainstream medical culture. My desire for more personalized and holistic care came into conflict with the high volume of patients and institutional restrictions that negatively influenced the quality of my work. We used to say: “We should really open a practice together!” in 2006, Jenn and I married, moved back home to the San Fernando Valley (where we grew up) and started professional jobs out of training. 4 1/2 years into my last position, the burnout of caring for 3,000 patients (seeing 20 + per day) and institutional limitations pushed me to look seriously at the possibility of a new career. In 2013, the idea of going out on my own was inspired by a patient who jokingly said, “When are you opening your concierge practice?” Until then, I had resigned myself to the way things were, not realizing that I could create a new path towards a more fulfilling experience for myself and my patients. I immediately phoned Jenn telling her that I knew what I wanted to do with the next chapter of my career. After watching my steady decline into frustration and disenchantment over the years, she was thrilled with the idea, and has stood by me as we moved towards bringing this dream of ours to fruition. Stan, a Vietnam Era vet, began his career in the entertainment and fitness industries before becoming an insurance professional. He opened his own insurance brokerage over 30 years ago, adding Long Term Care coverage to his portfolio of life and disability products. A premier specialist in Long Term Care, Stan guides his clients through the complexities of the choices available with long-term care, as well as offering life, disability, and critical illness policies. Stan currently teaches the general LTCi Continuing Education (CA) courses, as well as The California Partnership for Long Term Care, under the auspices of the California Departments of Insurance and Aging.
Stan receives numerous invitations to speak at local, financial planning, legal, senior, and insurance associations, including the San Gabriel Assn. of Financial Planeners, NAIFA, LAAHU/VCAHU, USC, and the Joint Medicare Summit (IEAHU/SDHU/OCAHU/ DCAHU). He has served on the advisory panels for the CA Partnership for Long Term Care.
Aside from his personal production and teaching seminars, Stan mentors financial professionals through the complexities of the LTC Insurance sale (pre-qualifying inquiries, meeting with clients, customizing proposals, monitoring underwriting). His agency assists the sellers of LTCI with education, marketing, and product knowledge. All client proposals and quotes are individually tailored to reflect clientsâ€™ needs, budgets, financial plan, and lifestyle requirements.
