In 2020, a group of women came together with a shared vision: transform neglected spaces into places of nourishment, connection, and care. With borrowed tools and neighbor support, we cleared an abandoned lot, rebuilt the soil, and began the steady work of regeneration of the land and the community around it.
Today, SOW Collective Backyard Farms donates 100% of our organic, pesticide-free harvest four days a week to community members who need it most. Our flock of chickens is a beloved part of the farm and our best teachers. Volunteers and youth interns learn animal husbandry, responsibility, and the role chickens play in a regenerative system, all through the simple act of caring for them. We're also home to the Reseda Nursery, where we grow native and crop plants that feed families and restore the ecological fabric of our neighborhood.
But we're more than a farm. We install garden beds at homes and schools, donate seeds, plant starts, and fruit trees, offer hands-on workshops in regenerative agriculture, composting, and food justice, and host field trips for schools, organizations, and businesses. People of all ages are welcome to learn, lead, and grow with us.
We've built a neighborhood-scale food system rooted in care and reciprocity and we're just getting started.
At SOW Collective, sustainability isn't just a practice. It's a way of being. We grow food, yes. But we're also growing belonging, resilience, and a future rooted in justice and joy.
